Nelson found his footing on the Country Line Dance floor at the early age of 11. Being the youngest dancer on the floor, he drew people’s attention and his love of dance and performing blossomed.
Throughout the following years he continued to grow within the Cornwall and Ottawa Line Dance communities. He soon began to travel to Line Dance Events outside of his communities. It was at a Line Dance Event in Connecticut in 2005, that he ventured into a bar where a beginner West Coast Swing Lesson was being taught. He was smitten. He never looked back.
In August of 2007, Nelson travelled to Framington, MA for Summer Hummer, entering into his first WCS competition as a Newcomer and winning first place. He continued to compete in events in Canada and US. By 2008 he had moved through Novice to Intermediate and by 2013, through Intermediate and into Advanced and finally to All-Star by 2014.
Nelson started his teaching career teaching Line Dance while still in Ottawa. As his love of WCS grew and he rose up the competition ladder, he switched to teaching WCS one-on-one privates throughout Ottawa area.
In 2011, Nelson moved to Toronto and brought his dance style and teaching skills to the Toronto community. By 2014, Nelson was being invited to teach at WCS events in Canada and the US.
This past year, Nelson teamed up with Kyle Fitzgerald to teach WCS classes for Twisted Sister Productions as the “Dynamic Duo”. They teach Intermediate-level classes and the response is outstanding. Students are challenged to work hard but with humour and fun.
Nelson is dedicated to growing the WCS community and elevating the dance level wherever he teaches.
